Hey, Mardi Gras!

Lil’ po’ boy and I went to the parades today at the usual spot on the corner of Napoleon and St. Charles. Small crowd. Small parade.

When I heard there were five krewes rolling one after the other, I figured we would be out there all day. Instead, it was like one parade. I’m not sure how many floats there were, but they went by pretty fast, sometimes two at a time due to the lack of high school bands. The bands that marched entertained the crowd. But there were not a lot of them.

Lil’ po’ boy had fun, but he wouldn’t let me pick him up. That severely lowered my chances for catching beads. We filled up our plastic shopping bag, though.

Does anyone else miss when catching a long bead was something special?

Does the church there have their bathrooms open? We'll be there Sunday night for Bacchus if I don't hit bad WX coming down from Fargo with my wife's car.

At my age, a fast parade might be a good thing. My 10 and 14 year old could stand there all day (and have), but I'm starting to get a little weary after say six hours of parade.

Not sure. We had no potty breaks.
I have a feeling Bacchus won't be quite as fast.
Good luck getting down here. Good times await.

I had a much better time with King Arthur and Carrollton today. Slower pace, more bands, and more stuffed animals than my 3 1/2 year old could carry.

Yeah, ALLA on the Westbank was great, loaded with bands and plenty of throws. But, still, the crowd was much smaller where I traditionally go and, maybe I missed it, but I didn't see one of their signature floats, the Oil Rig float.

The former Baptist Church--now part of Sacred Heart--has the same long time arrangement of a buck a pee. Or five bucks for all day. And they sell food and drinks now too.
